Jesus in England and Ireland

| Jesus in England | Jesus in India |

English tradition tells us that Jesus Christ visited the Cornwall district of southwest England with his brother Joseph Arimathea (Crown Prince), at some point prior to 30AD and his commencement of public preaching in Palestine. He is also said to have travelled further in England, including visits to Stonehenge, located between Cornwall and London, and to Ireland. The following books, videos and articles refer to that episode. This belief is not accepted by the Catholic Church, neither is the claim that Jesus had Druid training and revealed some of those influences in his subsequent teachings. The visit to the British Isles stands alongside that of Jesus to India and the Far East as the subject of widespread discussion, especially in those countries outside of Rome.

12-29AD

* At some point Jesus visited Cornwall with his brother (uncle) Joseph, on business connected with tin mining. It is also suggested that following this initial visit he travelled again (without Joseph) to England and went as far as Glastonbury to study Druid tradition and belief.

1555

* Polydoro Virgili, Anglica Historia [Polydore Vergil's English History], 3rd edition, Basle, 1555. This book is said to suggest that Jesus visited England. It also refers to the early years of Christianity in the British Isles and visits by the Apostle Thomas. C.f. Sons of God Ministries (2022).

1808

* William Blake, Jerusalem, poem / hymn. This is a famous poem that has subsequently taken on the mantle of de facto national anthem of England. It refers to the presence of Jesus in England. The origin of Blake's possession of this belief is not known.

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green:
And was the holy Lamb of God,
On England's pleasant pastures seen!
And did the Countenance Divine,
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here,
Among these dark Satanic Mills?
Bring me my Bow of burning gold:
Bring me my arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of fire!
I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand:
Till we have built Jerusalem,
In England's green & pleasant Land.

This poem promotes the idea of the visit of Jesus to England at some early stage in his life. It is now a commonly sung hymn and quasi national anthem.
