1. A real flying saucer?

On 11 May 2023 an interview with Dr Stephen Greer was published on YouTube which referred to a UFO buried on a mountain top near Seoul, South Korea (coordinates - 37°24'48.5"N 126°55'44.4"E). An extract subsequently appeared on Twitter with additional information and photographs. Greer's relevant comments in regard to information provided him by a whistleblower were as follows:

.... He was also read into projects dealing with .... invisibility technologies and warfare satellite weapon systems as well as other facilities where there were underground research projects, including in the Research Triangle Park in North Carolina and also down in Orange County California underneath an office building. He also dealt with a facility outside Seoul, South Korea, where there was a huge extraterrestrial vehicle that they had downed with, apparently, some type of electronic warfare system. They had to carve out a huge part of the mountain just to contain this object because it was too big to move to any other site, and that it is still there. (X, 9 July 2023)

On 8 July 2023 an interview with Australian journalist Ross Coulthart, also on YouTube, provided a further oblique reference to the Seoul UFO. This was enhanced on 12 September 2024 in a TikTok @theuapfiles video short which appeared on the Sam Forte YouTube channel, comprising a segment from another undated and unsourced interview with Coulthart. In that latter interview, the stern-faced Australian stated the following in regards to the Korean UFO:

One of the things I talked about at one stage, and I wish I never had, was my knowledge of a very large non-human craft that was discovered and was so large that it was hidden. I can't reveal how it was hidden, but obviously there's is something built over the top of it. I can't reveal where it is, and I've actually had death threats from lunatics on the web who are saying to me that I'm under an obligation to reveal it. But what I know is, if I revealed the location of that object I would put the lives of good men and women in the service of their country in jeopardy, because it's a place that's being used for a dual purpose. It's quite clever what they've done, and I have no intention of revealing, it. Absolutely none.

Despite what Coulthart says, the fact is, the video opens the site up to further study and investigation, following on what had previously been revealed by Greer. The commentary by the Australian journalist was somewhat strange in regard to its content and tone. Whilst one can understand the issue of confidentiality as pertaining to a journalist and their sources, some of the statements made are inexplicable. For example, who are the so-called killers that Coulthart speaks of? Why would the release of any information about the site ... put the lives of good men and women in the service of their country in jeopardy? Who does Coulthart and his sources fear - nerdy ufologists; invaders from another country who will then steal the large spacecraft; Aliens? This may all sounds very silly, yet it is consistent with Coulthart's ongoing fear-mongering in regards to the UFO and ET issue. Whilst on the one hand he has been involved in some significant disclosures, such as his May 2023 interview with US whistleblower David Gresch, on the other hand he has also been involved in the spread of a lot of misinformation / disinformation. The United States has been the major instigator of a coverup regarding UFOs and ETs which extends back to the 1920s at least. Coulthart is now part of that coverup. His head is in the Hollywood Invaders from Mars space, and not with humankind in 2024 as disclosure is being implemented. Coulthart does not always speak of, or promote, the truth. It could be said that he lies by omission. The fact is, there is nothing to fear from an Alien invasion - no evidence to support such a fear. The biggest threat to humanity's future comes from humans, not from Aliens.

Following the Greer and Coulthart comments, on 9 July 2023 a Twitter posting by Tyler Rogoway @Aviation_Intel discussed the Seoul site as primarily a military installation and aviation facility, thereby questioning its existence as a UFO burial site:

Never a dull moment in UFO land! Ross Coulthart - the journalist who interviewed whistle blower and intel veteran David Grusch, who claims the US has UFOs in its possession - said the US has a UFO so big it could not be moved and had to build a structure around it in a foreign country where it sat. Of course, this sent the UFO community on the hunt for this 'buried treasure.' As a result, a facility in Seoul, South Korea, is what many are saying is the mystery facility. While a big 270-foot-wide round structure atop a mountain certainly is interesting, in the context of South Korea it makes a ton of sense beyond concealing some giant UFO (hard to hide that basically on the edge of an extremely populous city regardless, but that's not the point here). When I first saw the satellite imagery of the structure in question three things stood out to me.

Aerial view of the Seoul site from @Aviation_Intel.

1.) It's location and how it was constructed. It provides a clear line of sight in all directions amongst South Korea's iconic high terrain. It seems custom built to achieve this based on its location, the structure's design, and the mountain it was built on.

2.) The array in the center of the circular facility is a common VORTAC (see VFR map below) used for aircraft navigation. It would play a critical role for air traffic operating in the region. 360 degree line of sight is key for it as it is an omni-directional DME emitter/system. You can't put one down on a field below as its radio emissions will be blocked by the high terrain. The TACAN part of the VORTAC (as opposed to a VOR) is critical for supporting military aviation operations, which are key to South Korea's defense.

3.) The large top area of this structure. While this seems somewhat mysterious, in the context of the VORTAC it is not, it provides a 'sterile' area all around the array, but also in context of the unique security situation South Korea exists in every day, it makes perfect sense. Let me explain: When I saw this structure I immediately said 'I bet you can drive vehicles up there.' Sure enough, you can as seen in the image below. During a crisis, this large flat structure would be an ideal location for anti-aircraft systems. It would provide a wide area to arrange sensor systems and/or AAA/missile battery. That same critical unobstructed line-of-sight would be key for defending Seoul in an attack that could come 'any day' for the better part of a century. It also would provide easy helicopter access to move outsized equipment and personnel. This installation appears designed to support such a contingency and as such it would have the ability be reinforced with security forces as needed. Maybe it also serves other uses, such as a contingency bunker for certain military operations, like air defense, which are not uncommon in South Korea. It is unknown if the facility serves additional air traffic control functions at this time as well. So, there is a very clear use case for such an installation in that exact position for conducting its current mission as a critical air traffic aid, including for military aircraft. And it's a perfect perch from which to help defend the skies over South Korea's largest city. So, does a buried UFO come with all this? I will leave that answer up to you. But clearly, this facility has other far more pedestrian purposes.

Despite Rogoway's comments, there does not appear to be any conflict between what he presents and the reports by Greer and Coulthart. The large flying saucer was later referred to by Dr Michael Salla on 21 September 2024, following another comment by Coulthart in an interview with whistleblower Lou Elizondo. During his discussion, Salla suggest that the UFO was possibly a space ark, which are large Alien spacecraft secreted away (often buried) on Earth for future use (Coulthart & Elizondo 2024, Salla 2024).

2. Description

Based on information presented in the Greer and Coulthart video postings, including photographs and Google Maps location data, the site is clearly identified as Imgok-ro, South Korea, also know as Anyang Si. This is an area on the southern eastern outskirts of Seoul, the capital of South Korea, located on the west coast of the Korean peninsula. The following Goole Maps screen shot shows the location as at 12 September 2024. What is reveals is a large flat metallic disc structure with some buildings on the north west corner, with a road on the northern side leading up to the site.

Google maps aerial view of the Seoul site.

A 3D representation of the above image reveals that the circular structure is located on a mountain top overlooking the city of Seoul to the northwest, with higher mountains to the north and north east.

The Google Maps image in the Coulthart video indicates that the diameter of the circular structure is 270 feet (82 metres).

Next to the circular structure, on its northwest edge, is an series of buildings referred to on the Google site as an Army facility. The circular structure itself is listed as an art gallery. This ties in with Coulthart's reference to the "dual use" of the site. Rogoway suggests that a third use of the site is as a aviation and communication facility. In the Coulthart video the following two images of the craft were also displayed.

A number of questions arise from the above information:

  1. When did the UFO arrive on Earth?
  2. What were the circumstances of its arrival?
  3. When was it uncovered or buried?
  4. What is the precise date of the photographs?

According to the Korean UFOs video, during 1976 the South Korean military forces attempted to shoot down UFOs. With such a stance, and the strong support of their American allies, it is possible that, as Greer noted, the craft was shot down and thereafter buried.

4. Commentary

Both of the immediately above photographic images appear to have been taken during an excavation and/or burial process. Greer says that the craft was shot down, and the hill top was excavated so that it could be buried on site, as it was too big to move. This is an incredible story that may or may not be correct. The first photograph displays what appears to be an old, damaged flying saucer which has been buried for a long time and is being uncovered in the shot. It is less obvious in the second photograph, wherein the craft appears to be hanging and perhaps being dropped into an excavated hole. The flying saucer itself is a typical, if not idealised, craft: circular in shape and like two bowled plates placed side by side to each other. The craft in the first image looks damaged in part; the craft in the second image looks largely undamaged. It is possible that these are two different craft. As the author has not been able to source these images, the status of the Imgok-ro flying saucer remains unconfirmed, apart from the testimony of Greer and Coulthart. Until official confirmation of the event is forthcoming, we must class this as unverified, apart from the accounts of two highly informed / misinformed commentators on the UFO phenomena.

Daniel, Alex, UFO hunter claims a giant spacecraft is being hidden underneath a major landmark, indy100, 20 July 2023. Text: A UFO hunter claims there is a huge spaceship hidden beneath one of the world’s major landmarks because it is “too big to move”. Ross Coulthart, an investigative journalist and UFO expert, said a “non-human” spacecraft is being stashed beneath a purpose-built structure – though he won't tell us where it is. Speaking in an interview, he said: “Some of these objects are not capable of being moved because they’re too bloody big. I know exactly where it is. I thought it was b*****ks when I heard it, too.” Coulthart was previously a reporter on the news and current affairs program 60 Minutes on Channel Nine in Australia and has since gone on to write a number of books including In Plain Sight: An investigation into UFOs and Impossible Science. The UFO hunter community’s response to his claims has been a mixture of disbelief and desperation to find out where the landmark is. Some people seem to think it’s in South Korea, while others think it’s likely to be in an air defence military base. Coulthart has already made headlines this year after interviewing a whistleblower, who claimed that the US military had several crashed spacecraft in its possession, along with alien bodies. The Pentagon has said it hasn't discovered any information to substantiate this claim – but Congress is taking it seriously. In a twist that would have made even fans of The X Files raise an eyebrow, the Congressional House Oversight Committee is to hold a hearing on the issue next week after Republican congressmen and women promised to look deeper into the issue. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was asked on Monday if he believes in aliens, in light of the hearing. "I will continue to see," McCarthy said. "But I think if we had found a UFO, I think the Department of Defense would tell us because they would probably want to request more money. I'd love to see whatever facts and information we have," McCarthy added. "I'm very supportive of letting the American people see what we have, where we go."
